Pete Dye Course Hole #4 Update:
Many of the existing golf holes have had a similar look and feel to them. Golf Hole #4 is a good example illustrating the goal of the master plan to add individuality.
This green was typical of many other greens on the golf course, adjacent to a lake with a bunker between the lake and the green. This green had a small bunker in front of it but did not add much to distinguish it from other green sites on the golf course.
It’s large and perpendicular green (compared to most greens that play lengthwise) provided an opportunity to place a more dramatic bunker in the middle-front of the green and still allow plenty of width for the average golfer to play around the hazard on both sides. This bunker concept was inspired by Mr. Dye’s Gremlin’s Ear at the 6th on Whistling Straits but instead of going down with the bunker we decided to go up with the bunker depth and size much like Carnoustie in Scotland.
